African Well Fund Launches Ninth Annual Build a Well for Bono's Birthday Fundraiser
Campaign honoring U2 lead singer will fund construction of water and sanitation projects at girls' schools in Benin built by Angelique Kidjo's Batonga Foundation. SCHENECTADY , N.Y. – The African Well Fund (http://www.africanwellfund.org) has launched its ninth annual Build a Well for Bono's Birthday fundraiser (http://www.africanwellfund.org/Bono-Well-2011.html). All funds raised during the campaign, running March 22 through May 10, benefit a water and sanitation project that will be implemented by AWF partner Africare (http://www.africare.org) at girls' schools in Benin that have been built by Angelique Kidjo's Batonga Foundation (http://www.batongafoundation.org/). The African Well Fund will be accepting Build a Well for Bono's Birthday donations through its website (http://www.africanwellfund.org/Bono-Well-2011.html), as well as through a special Facebook Causes page (http://www.facebook.com/AfricanWellFund). All donors are invited to add their names and birthday wishes to a card that will be sent to Bono in care of Principle Management. The organization will also be selling merchandise featuring a logo designed by Lizzie Fortuin through its Zazzle store (http://www.zazzle.com/africanwellfund), and will host U2 live photo and 360° Tour ticket auctions on eBay (http://myworld.ebay.com/theafricanwellfund/) to benefit the fundraiser. Donations from the eight previous Build a Well for Bono's Birthday fundraisers have totaled nearly $200,000 and have been used to fund water and sanitation projects implemented by African Well Fund partner Africare to benefit more than 30,000 people in Angola, Liberia, Uganda and Zimbabwe. The African Well Fund(http://www.africanwellfund.org) is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to the mission of funding clean water and sanitation projects in sub-Saharan Africa . Since its founding in 2002, the African Well Fund has raised more than $700,000 to fund more than 200 projects in 13 African nations, benefiting more than 287,000 people. |
