There were many mentions of the volunteers all throughout the article, particularly in Julie's comments, and Kelley took the time to talk to several people who do not serve on the board to help make the point. I think that 10 women thing was only related to the one quote from Africare about how the board came up for the dinner - the people Africare has actually met. I loved this article! I wanted to let everyone know of a POSSIBLE media lead I just received from a friend of mine in Atlanta who works at Turner Communications, the parent company of CNN. I met my friend when we both were covering Bono's appearance at the King Center's "Salute to Greatness" awards ceremony in January - I was reporting for Interference.com and my friend was reporting for CNN. I was just FINALLY able to get hold of them and I will be emailing Julie and Jo the contact info they gave me in order to reach the PRODUCERS of the various CNN shows. This is in hopes that they can be persuaded to give our Bono Birthday Well project a mention, an interview, etc. ON THE AIR! I don't know if this will work - but it is DEFINITELY worth the time to try. Hopefully, this will ONE MORE sign of my undeterred commitment and friendship with and for EVERY member of the AWF. We ARE ALL ONE and if we ever attempt to separate ourselves from each other, we diminish our power and effectiveness for the People of Africa. And because I really do not "toot" my own horn very much, I think this is an appropriate time to mention what has been happening with me quietly over the last several months. In February, I accepted a position with a Sister Cities International program that the city of Austin(Texas) has with Maseru, Lesotho. Lesotho unfortunately has the 4th highest HIV-infected rate in the world.(33% of its adult population is HIV-infected.) Because of my friendship with the chairwoman of the committee and her knowledge that I am a longtime AIDS activist with a LOT of determination, she asked me to accept the title of Co-ordinator, HIV/AIDS Projects. I staff booths at community events, do outreach at churches and schools, talk to our local media and will be a public speaker next month at a Global AIDS function in town - this is besides co-ordinating with the rest of our Committee on direct links with Lesotho. Just this past weekend, I staffed a booth at our local "Marleyfest" in honor of Bob Marley and I raised $100 for an AIDS orphanage in Africa, collected over 50 signatures for DATA's petitions to Keep America's Promise to Africa AND PASSED OUT 27 copies of our Bono Birthday Well info! This IS NOT to brag - I don't do that. But it is to say that, if given the chance, I DO PRODUCE MEASURABLE RESULTS and would like to become an even bigger part of the AWF than I have been able to be in the past. I am making contacts that can be helpful to the mission of the AWF but I would like to TRULY feel that I am fully accepted and appreciated here. Anyway, enough for now - we have work to do. Julie and Jo expect your personal emails asap. Take good care, dear friends, and let's ALL continue to support each other, especially as we approach 30 April. Let's keep our good thoughts and deeds going - the People of Africa need them and I think the B-man does too! And remember, God blesses the AWF always. ONE, debbie There's no them, there's ONLY US! I'm not sure we could say that DATA specifically wrote that to assist the AWF, but we're sure glad that to hear about the focus on water needs. We're already planning to link up to that series of articles regarding Erin Chapman's travels. I guess I was just pleased that Erin's piece coincides with the AWF's attempt to build Birthday wells for Bono in Ethiopia - I still think it might help us. Take good care and God bless.
