U2 Ticket Auction to Benefit AWF

A generous U2 fan is auctioning off a ticket to the May 10th U2 show in Chicago. Since May 10th just happens to be Bono's birthday, it is rather appropriate that all proceeds will be donated to the Build a Well for Bono's Birthday fundraiser.

New Jersey 8th Graders Raise Money to Build a Well

“YOU HAVE ONE LIFE… DO SOMETHING!” That’s the motto adopted by the 8th grade students in Dana Golowich’s science classes. The something that the students decided to do was to help to bring clean water to those who don’t have it.

After studying about the lack of access to clean water in Africa, students at the Reading-Flemington Middle School in Flemington, New Jersey, decided they wanted to help in some way. They began to raise money to fund a well in Africa by selling candy to their fellow students. Over 130 students have participated and after 2 months of fundraising $1000 has been raised! The students hope to raise at least $1500 and the fundraiser will continue until June 15th. The money will be used by African Well Fund’s partner Africare to help fund a water project in Africa.

The African Well Fund applauds these students and their willingness to turn their awareness into action. Their efforts will have a significant impact on the lives of hundreds of people in Africa.

An Evening in Africa

Be The Cause, a Southern-California based group promoting global awareness and activism, presents An Evening in Africa on Saturday, April 30, 2005. Irvine’s Turtle Rock Community Center will host the event, which highlights the experiences of seventeen Be The Cause volunteers who traveled to Africa in December of 2004.

Volunteers will share stories, photos and video taken while they worked on volunteer projects in South Africa and Kenya. An Evening in Africa will feature additional presentations from Joanne Baker of Tias Arms, and Alka Subramanian of Power of Love. Swaziland native Makhosazana Fletcher will dance, and attendees are invited to bring their own drums for a traditional African drum circle. In addition, the African Well Fund will host an informational table at the event.

An Evening in Africa is presented in coordination with INSAKA and the BAHA’I community. This event is free and open to the public, and runs from 6-9 PM. All donations received from those in attendance will be divided equally among Tias Arms and Power of Love, organizations providing relief efforts in South Africa and Kenya, respectively. Jars of Clay 1000 Wells Project

Multi-platinum, Dove and Grammy award winning band Jars of Clay has recently launched the “1000 Wells Project”. The goal of the fundraising campaign is to raise enough money to fund 1000 clean water systems across Sub-Saharan Africa.

The premise of the campaign is a simple one: one dollar can make a difference. One dollar can provide one year of clean water for one African. Through its non-profit organization, Blood:Water Mission, Jars of Clay is calling on individuals and organizations across the country to mobilize people within their communities to donate one dollar each for Africa. The money raised by 1000 wells will be distributed to organizations such as Africare that are equipped and dedicated to developing clean water systems in Africa.

Launched on February 16th, the 1000 wells project recently raised over $320,000 in pledges when Jars of Clay appeared live on the radio for a 12 hour phone-a-thon. Additionally, Jars has been using its spring concert tour to appeal to its audiences, asking for $1 each from those in attendance. For more information please click here.
