10 Miles in Her Shoes Fundraiser Announced

Everyday in Africa, many people, particularly women, have to walk for miles to get water. The chore of fetching water is no small task, it involves walking sometimes up to 10 miles to the nearest water source, and carrying home the heavy containers filled with the day’s supply of water.

Through the month of June, The African Well Fund is asking you to “Walk 10 Miles in Her Shoes”. 84,480 Pennies ($844.80) lined up makes a mile of pennies.
We would like to have at least 10 cities participate, with each city raising a mile’s worth of pennies through various penny fundraisers. Our goal is to raise 10 miles worth of pennies.

African Well Fund at the ‘ONE Campaign’ Launch

The African Well Fund was very pleased to have been able to participate in the rally in Philadelphia on May 16th for the launch of the One Campaign. ONE is a new effort to rally Americans -- ONE by ONE -- to fight global AIDS and extreme poverty. For more information their website!

The AWF set up an informational table at the event. We distributed literature, talked about our new 10 Miles fundraiser and had dozens of people sign up for our mailing list. Thank you to all who stopped by our table.

DATA Rally for Africa

And the Grand Total For the "2004 Bono Birthday Wells Fundraiser" Is.....

$15,757.60 (USD)!

Once again, U2 fans responded generously making this year's fundraiser a tremendous success! Almost 300 of you gave to the "Make it a Beautiful Day in Africa" campaign. On behalf of Africare and the people of Ethiopia, the African Well Fund would like to thank you for your generosity.

The birthday messages for Bono left on our site have been delivered to Principle Management, along with an announcement of the amount raised. In the coming months, we will be providing more information about the well projects funded by this campaign as it becomes available.

Birthday Well Fundraiser Ends

The 2004 Bono Birthday Well Fundraiser has come to a close. On behalf of Africare and the people of Ethiopia, we thank everyone for their generous contributions. We will be announcing the grand total on May 10th. This will allow Africare time to tabulate all the international and last minute donations. Check back then for the total and in the coming months for more information from Ethiopia about your donations at work. You can still find the birthday card here, and remember - even though this year's Bono Birthday fundraiser is over, the African Well Fund accepts donations year round, so it is never too late to donate!
